Host plants:
The larvae feed on Artemisia herba-alba.
Habitat:
Cucullia bubaceki inhabits steppe areas, rocky slopes and heavily grazed pastures with the host plant.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths occur in several generations from late March to autumn. Most often the following scheme can be recognized: A first quite complete generation appears in spring (late March to May). A part of the resulting pupae develop without dormancy and result in moths from mid-June, other pupae go in dormancies of various duration. They result in moths from August to late autiumn, some even not until next spring. This repeats in a similar way. Main flight times are thus spring (April/May) and autumn (September/October), main larval times May/June and September to November.
Endangerment factors:
The steppe habitats have in many regions already been destroyed to a large extent by EU-funded intense agriculture.
Remarks:
Cucullia bubaceki is a Spain endemic and occurs from the Northeast (strongholds in the Monegros and generally the Ebro valley) across the center (e.g. Madrid, Teruel, Cuenca) southward to the region of Murcia.
