Host plants:
The larvae feed on Quercus species.
Habitat:
Dichonia aprilina colonizes oak-rich forests and other oak occurrences as for eaxample in grove-rich grasslands.
Life cycle:
The egg overwinters. The caterpillar lives from April to early June. Mature larvae can be found as early as late April in warm years. They rest in bark crevices during the day. The adults fly in September and October.

Endangerment factors:
The decline of oak woodlands in favour of fast-growing spruce, maple or beech woods is a threat for Dichonia aprilina especially north of the Alps
Remarks:
Dichonia aprilina is quite widespread in oak forests in Europe and Asia Minor.
