Host plants:
Probably also in the field dead and dying leaves and other plant material (litter).

Habitat:
Polypogon gryphalis inhabits humid and warm grove-rich sites such as riparian woodlands with plenty clearings etc.

Life cycle:
The moths occur in one or sometimes possibly also two generations especially between late June and August. The larvae hibernate.

Endangerment factors:
In Europe Polypogon gryphalis is endangered due to the destroyment of its habitat (wet woodlands, riparian woodlands).

Remarks:
Polypogon gryphalis occurs in the southern Alps from France across N-Italy to S_Switzerland (Ticino, Misox). It is further found from Hungary across the Northern Balkans to Bulgaria and eastwards across temperate Asia to Japan.
