Host plants:
The larvae feed on Salix species, particularly rough-leaved species like Salix caprea, S. cinerea, S. viminalis and S. aurita.

Habitat:
Brachylomia viminalis inhabits riparian forests, softwood-rich wetlands, clearings with sallows and willow occurrences in other forest formations. It is found in more moist and cool habitats.

Life cycle:
The egg overwinters. The caterpillar lives from late April to early or mid-June and can be tapped. Moths are observed in July and August, rarely as early as June.

Remarks:
Brachylomia viminalis is widespread in Central and Northern Europe, but limited further south to the mountains. But it is also missing in much of the Benelux countries and northern Germany.
