Host plants:
The larvae feed on Salix species, especially Salix caprea, Salix cinerea and narrow-leaved species such as Salix purpurea or Salix alba. It is rarely also reported from Populus.

Habitat:
Ipimorpha retusa colonizes willow-rich forests, wetlands, floodplains, lakeshores and other softwood-rich habitats.

Life cycle:
Ipimorpha retusa flies in a single generation from late June to August. The caterpillars live from late April to mid-June in housings of spun shoot tips. The egg overwinter.

Remarks:
Ipimorpha retusa is widely distributed from Europe to Japan.
