Host plants:
The larvae feed on lichens and fungus (especially on wood).
Habitat:
Parascotia fuliginaria inhabits especially woodlands and other grove-rich habitats, but also anthropogenic sites such as wooden sheds etc.
Life cycle:
The half-grown larva hibernates and is mature in May or June. Pupation occurs in a cocoon which is constructed of lichens or biten wood parts and is suspended like a hammock. The imagines occur between June and September. The late summer moths usually belong to a partial second generation. The eggs are deposited singly near the larval food (e.g. on bark).
Remarks:
Parascotia fuliginaria is widespread in Europe except the Arctic regions. It is also found in W-Asia, towards the Caucasus and S-Siberia. In S-Europe there are also other members of this genus.
