Host plants:
The larvae feed on Convolvulus and Calystegia species.
Habitat:
Aedia funesta inhabits most often wetlands, fallow land, edges and other warm sites which are rich in host plants. It mainly occurs in lower altitudes (usually below 600m in Central Europe).
Life cycle:
The moths occur in one or two overlapping generations from late May to August. the second generation is only partial. The larve develop between late June and early October. The construct a cocon in the soil where they have a longer or shorter prepupal dormancy. In case of an hibernation this prepupal stage lasts until spring.
Remarks:
Aedia funesta occurs from N-Spain across Central Europe (partly quite local) to W-Asia (N-Iran). In S-Europe it is found very locally in Central Italy and more widespread in the Balkans.
