Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on Silene species. I found the caterpillar on Silene vulgaris.
Habitat:
Hadena nevadae inhabits nutrient-poor meadows, dry slopes and other occurrences of Silene vulgaris.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly in May and June, at the highest altitudes perhaps still in July. The caterpillar lives particularly from May to July. I found a mature larva in late iJune 2008 at the Ruta de Veleta in approximately 1100m above sea level uring daytime in a Silene vulgaris fruit.
Remarks:
Hadena nevadae is endemic to central and Southern Spain, and especially known from the Sierra Nevada. The taxon is very close to Hadena perplexa and the exact relationship of the two taxa require further assessment.
