Host plants:
The caterpillar lives in the fruit capsules of Silene nutans and (in Southern Europe) related species.
Habitat:
Perizoma hydrata inhabits dry rocky slopes and other warm locations with Silene nutans such as quarries.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly from May to mid-July in a single generation. The caterpillar is found from June to early/mid-August. The caterpillars live in the maturing capsules and cause round drilling holes similar to but smaller than those of Hadena species.

Endangerment factors:
Perizoma hydrata is threatened rthrough eforestation and succession of rocky areas on the one hand, but on the other hand also by intensive (goats) grazing, overbuilding or backfilling of quarries.
Remarks:
Perizoma hydrata occurs locally in the mountain ranges in Europe and Asia (to Mongolia).
