Xanthorhoe biriviata (Borkhausen, 1794)

Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on Impatiens noli-tangere (native Jewelweed). Whether the neophytic species Impatiens parviflora or I. glandulifera are used, is apparently not known.

Habitat:
Xanthorhoe biriviata inhabits halfshady to shady places with Impatiens in and around mostly humid forests such as forest edges, pathes, ditches or small clearings.

Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly mostly in two generations from mid March to early September. They are often found feeding on wet forest trails. The caterpillar lives from May to October.

Remarks:
Xanthorhoe biriviata is widespread in Europe and temperate Asia. In southern Europe the distribution is restricted only locally to the mountain.
