Host plants:
The larvae feed on Pteridium aquilinum. If other ferns are regularly used in the field, is still not known satisfactorily. In rearing, Dryopteris is also accepted.
Habitat:
Petrophora chlorosata inhabits all possible sites with Pteridium, but occurs especially in and near woodland an in humid places, e.g. along forest tracks, edges and clearings.
Life cycle:
The adults occur in a single generation between May and mid-July. The larvae develop between June and August and are beaten easily. The pupa hibernates, respectively the partly developed moth within the pupa.
Remarks:
Petrophora chlorosata occurs from Europe to E-Asia. In Germany it is quite widespread.
