Host plants:
The caterpillars live in the capsules of Rhinanthus species, so special Rhinanthus alectorolophus (Shaggy rattle).
Habitat:
Perizoma albulata inhabits mainly nutrient-poor grasslands and edges as well as pastures and very extensively managed meadows.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly from May to July, rarely in warm climates in a partial second generation in late July and August. The caterpillar lives from June to August in the fruit capsules. It changes frequently the capsule, which is indicated by a small entrance hole.
Endangerment: regionally endangered or decreasing
Endangerment factors:
Perizoma albulata is in decline through the loss of nutrient-poor grasslands. It tolerates only extensive grazing. Overall, however, it is still more widespread in the Jura Mountains and other regions that are rich in grasslands.
Remarks:
Perizoma albulata is distributed almost throughout Europe.
