Host plants:
The larva is polyphagous on low-growing herbs and grasses.
Habitat:
Hoplodrina hesperica inhabits dry and warm habitats. I recorded the larvae in a grassy embankment along a forest road through oak woodland (Quercus pyrenaia) by shaking out the litter (Spain, Sierra de Gredos, 1100m, October 2021).
Life cycle:
The young larva hibernates. I recorded young larvae in mid-October. In rearing, the moths appeared in mid-January. In nature, the larvae should be mature in April or May. The prepupa lasts for several weeks until pupation. The moths fly between late July and September with peak in August.
Remarks:
Hoplodrina hesperica occurs in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain, probably also Portugal) and in southern France.
