Host plants:
The larvae feed on Jurinea mollis, locally and regionally also on other Jurinea species.
Habitat:
Eublemma rosea inhabits hot grasslands and steppes with rocks, usually on limestone, often still moderately grazed.
Life cycle:
The larvae hibernate and are mature in April or May. I recorded them in the antepenultimate to final instar near Kozani (N-Greece) in early April 2025. Thus a prolonged flight time is expectable between late May and July.In the same locality, I recorded a few males on 09. June 2024. These are easily flushed and resettle in an Eublemma-typical manner on stalks, mostly head-down or horizontally with ventral side up. At least after hibernation the larvae live in a shelter made of plant hairs and webbing at the base of the Jurinea plants, often just below the leafs on the root collar, sometimes also higher.Mature larvae are creme-coloured or creamy-greenish. Pupation occurs in a similar cocoon.
Remarks:
Eublemma rosea occurs from SE-Europe (especially Balkans: Greece, Albania, Northern Macedonia, Bulgaria, also S-Croatia; Ukraine) to Asia (Turkey, S-Russia, Iran, Turkmenistan, Altai mountains etc.). In Spain there is a similar sister species: E. reitzi.
