Host plants:
The caterpillars live polyphagous in the herb layer, often on Lotus and other Fabaceae.
Habitat:
Syngrapha hochenwarthi colonizes alpine meadows, pastures and rocky slopes from about 1700 to 2700m above sea level.
Life cycle:
The caterpillar overwinters twice according to literature. I found them in the winter rest in mid-October at 2500m above sea level under stones together with Erebia and Arctiidae larvae. The caterpillars are fully-grown in May and June. The moths fly in July/August and visit flowers during the day.
Remarks:
Syngrapha hochenwarthi is local but occasionally quite common in the high Alps. Syngrapha hochenwarthi also occurs from Scandinavia to Sibiria and also in the Caucasus.
