Host plants:
The species is polyphagous, but often feeds on Fabaceae and Asteraceae.

Habitat:
Lacanobia aliena inhabits warm and dry nutrient-poor grasslands and similar habitats (quarries, slopes, embankments). I found egg batches several times on the lower leaf surface of seabuckthorn (Durance, Hautes-Alpes) in early July 2012.

Life cycle:
Lacanobia aliena occurs in a single generation from late May to early July. The caterpillars live from mid/late June to August. The pupa overwinters.

Endangerment: endangered

Endangerment factors:
Lacanobia aliena is locally in decline due to habitat loss.

Remarks:
The total distribution extends from the eastern Pyrenees to Japan.
