Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on both living herbaceous plants as well as on dead plant material of all kinds.

Habitat:
Idaea seriata occurs as synanthropic species in gardens, at houses, on balconies, in and around agricultural properties into the cities. Whether the moth lives also in semi-natural habitats, is not well studied.

Life cycle:
The caterpillar overwinters. I found caterpillars on potted thyme on the balcony in Schwäbisch Gmünd, where the adults rest regularly on the wall. The moths occur in several generations between April and October.

Remarks:
Idaea seriata is distributed from Northwest Africa across Europe to Southwestern Asia.
