Host plants:
The caterpillar lives polyphagous on ground-level plant parts and probably also roots. I found them below eroded Calendula plants hidden in the gravel (La Gomera).

Habitat:
Euxoa canariensis colonizes dry warm rocky slopes and rubble areas. It should also occur on sand and other open soils.

Life cycle:
The main flight period is from autumn to spring in about 2 generations. In the summer drought significantly fewer moths are found.

Remarks:
Euxoa canariensis occurs in arid regions from north Africa to Central Asia. It also colonized the Canary Islands (Spain), where I found young caterpillars superficially digged in shallow fine gravel (Valle Hermosa) during the day in December.
