Host plants:
The larvae feed on broom species (Fabaceae).
Habitat:
Autophila cataphanes inhabits broom heaths, pastures and other sites with larval hoast plants up to high altitudes.
Life cycle:
The moths hibernate. The larvae feed in spring between April and June, in the uppermost altitudes until July. I recorded the larva on young, low brooms near the ground in 1700m in the Sierra de Gredos during daytime.
Remarks:
Autophila cataphanes occurs in NW-Africa and in SW-Europe (Iberian Peninsula, southern France, adjacent Italy).
