Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous on low-growing herbs such as Galium or Lamium.
Habitat:
Xanthorhoe quadrifasiata inhabits especially woodland edges of all kinds (wet to dry). It is also found in edges outside the woodlands.
Life cycle:
The larva hibernates. I recorded it often in September and October when shaking out ground vegetation. The larva is mature in April or May. The aults occur especially in one generation between June and August. There are, however, also records in lower altitudes from May and also in September. Thus probably a partial second generation is involved.
Remarks:
Xanthorhoe quadrifasiata occurs in most parts of Europe and temperate Asia.
