Habitat:
Melanthia procellata occurs in the Clematis rambling of many locations, so in riparian forests, hedges, forest edges and in clearings.

Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths fly mostly in two generations from late April to early September. The caterpillars are found mainly from June to early October.

Remarks:
Melanthia procellata is widespread in Southern and Central Europe. It is also found in temperate Asia to Japan.
