Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on mostly shaded beech (Fagus sylvatica).
Habitat:
Cyclophora linearia colonized beech forests of all kinds.
Life cycle:
The pupa overwinters as with the other species mostly on leaves, with which it falls to the ground in autumn. The moths fly in two generations from mid April to September (occasionally a partial third generation).
The caterpillars live in the summer and early autumn on the leaves and are easily found on low branches within the woods, sometimes together with Heterogenea asella.
Remarks:
Cyclophora linearia is widespread in Europe with the beech. In the south it is thus restricted to the mountains. In addition, parts of Western Asia are also colonized (e.g. Turkey, northern Iran).
