The caterpillar lives on juniper (Juniperus).

Habitat:
Thera juniperata colonized dwarf shrub heath with Juniperus, limestone grasslands, Erica-Pinus forests and parks, gardens and cemeteries planted with Juniperus species.

Life cycle:
The egg overwinters. The caterpillar develops slowly from late April or early May to August or September. The moths fly from September to November with a distinct peak in October.

Remarks:
Thera juniperata has a Holarctic distribution from Central and Northern Europe across northern Asia spread to North America.
