Host plants:
The larva feeds on Calluna vulgaris, perhaps also Erica.
Habitat:
Pachycnemia hippocastanaria inhabits Calluna heathland and similar warm sites.
Life cycle:
Pachycnemia hippocastanaria occurs in two or three generations between April and October. In central Europe there are usually two generations. Hibernation takes place either as a pupa or larva. I recorded mature larvae in the central Black Forest in late March 2020.
Remarks:
Pachycnemia hippocastanaria occurs from NW-Africa across parts of Europe to S-Russia and Turkey.
