Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous. A common host plant is Artemisia.
Habitat:
Ascotis selenaria inhabits mostly warm and slightly dry habitats like fallow land, sandy grasslands, open scrub, but also seasonally dry wetlands.
Life cycle:
The pupa hibernates. The moths occur in 1-3 generations (according to region) from April to September. The pupa hibernates. According to rearing observations the eggs are deposited quite hidden in leaf sheaths, buds or hairs of plants. The larvae are found singly, but often commonly.
Remarks:
Ascotis selenaria occurs from southern and central Europe to eastern Asia (Japan).
