Habitat:
Xerohippus occidentalis inhabits dry and hot, stony areas with scarce vegetation, but usually with dwarf shrubs like Anabasis articulata or Ziziphus lotus, usually below 500m.
Life cycle:
The adults should occur from summer to autumn and far into winter. I recorded them in autumn (October and November). Especially the smaller males often stay on dwarf shrubs. They are easily flushed when walking around.
Remarks:
Xerohippus occidentalis is endemic to S-Spain (province of Almeria). It is even local and often scarce in its small distribution area. I recorded it in higher numbers near Gador.
