Habitat:
Italohippus modestus usually inhabits rocky and sunny places between app. 1700 and 2000m.
Life cycle:
The adults occur between mid-July and October. During warm weather conditions the animals are very active in the fast heating stony places. Then the typical sounds of the males (dschhh) are omnipresent.
Remarks:
Italohippus modestus is endemic to Monte Terminillo near Rieti (Monti Reatini, central Apennines, Italy).
Hints on determination:
Italohippus modestus is a bit larger in average than I. monticola and furthermore geographically separated.
