Habitat:
According to literature Rhacocleis maculipedes often inhabits open scrub with Erica arborea. Own observations in early October 2018 succeeded in dry, gappily vegetated ruderal areas with Cistus and especially Inula viscosa (and other dwarf shrubs), often near open woodland.

Life cycle:
The adults appear especially in summer and autumn. They usually rest in small bushes (dwarf shrubs) and can be flushed easily.

Endangerment factors:
Rhacocleis maculipedes can be endangered by changes (intensification, overbuilding etc.) of the ruderal places. Overgrazing may be another factor. The suppression of Erica arborea by pastoralists should be avoided.

Remarks:
Rhacocleis maculipedes is endemic to Sardinia and is there only found in the South (e.g. Iglesiente) between 200 and about 1200m. In the Gennargentu mountains it occurs at least northward to Aritzo (record of a female in 2018).
