Habitat:
Isophya modesta inhabits steppe grasslands, pastures, open woodland with clearings and similar sites in the lowlands and up to app. 1000m.
Life cycle:
The adults occur early in the season from late May to July, only rarely still later. I observed the animals on comparatively low-growing herbs like broad leaves of Colchicum or on Galium, Inula etc. at its single known site in E-Austria during daytime. The male sounds are - in contrast to many other Isophya - clearly audible for human ears.
Remarks:
Isophya modesta is very local and occurs in heavily isolated subpopulations in E-Austria (a single known locality in Burgenland), Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and adjacent parts of Russia. The core area is in Romania.
