Host plants:
I recorded the larvae in Samos island on Cirsium. The resulting adults have been determined by the forester specialist Mr. Tarmann.
Habitat:
Jordanita anatolica inhabits dry and warm habitats, especially the garrigue, ruderalised embankments and road side verges wit the host plants.
Life cycle:
The moths occur in late spring and early summer between late April and June, mostly in late May. The larva hibernates. I recorded mature larvae in late April on Samos island. In the same island in early April 2022 I found many half-grown to mature larvae, but also small ones. These larvae had buried into the tips of then still ground-near stems and rested there or on the ground under the plant during daytime. The small larvae reentered dormance for a further hibernation in rearing.
Remarks:
Jordanita anatolica is distributed from Asia Minor and N-Africa (Lybia, Egypt) across the Near East to Transcaucasia and Iran. In Greece, it is known only from some east Aegean islands: Samos, Leros, Rhodos and Symi. It occurs also in Cyprus.
