Host plants:
The larvae feed on algae, moss, and lichens.
Habitat:
The preferred habitats are coniferous forests, mixed forests, bog woodland and sand pines. But Eilema deplana occurs occasionally also in pure deciduous forest areas.
Life cycle:
A single generation is formed (end June to August), as in most other Eilema species in Central Europe. Wintered caterpillars I found on spruce trunks in May and early June. Young caterpillars can be tapped together with mature Atolmis rubricollis of spruce branches on wet forest trails in September.
Endangerment factors:
Eilema deplana is not endangered.
Remarks:
The total distribution ranges from Northern Spain to East Asia.
