The larvae feed on oaks (Quercus), according to literature also on Arbutus unedo.
Habitat:
Phalera bucephaloides inhabits oak-rich, dry and warm areas.
Life cycle:
The moths occur in a single generation between May and August, probably with a peak in late June and July. The larvae develop especially in late summer. The pupa hibernates.
Remarks:
Phalera bucephaloides occurs locally in Southern Europe and West Asia (e.g. Turkey). It penetrates to the north as far as the valley of the southern Alps (e.g. Aoste) and Hungary repectively souhternmost parts of Slovakia. But it misses even there many regions, e.g. South Italy and vast parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
