Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous in the herb layer.

Habitat:
Rhyparioides metelkana inhabits large lowland marshes and swamps.

Life cycle:
The moths occur in June and July. The larvae hibernate. Rhyparioides metelkana is indeed very local and already has disappeared from many former sites due to drainage and subsequent agriculture, but it is often numerous in still existing and intact habitats.

Endangerment factors:
In Europe, Rhyparioides metelkana is threatened by extinction and is fully dependent on protection and optimization of the few still existing sites.

Remarks:
Rhyparioides metelkana has always been very local in Europe, occurring from W-France to Crimea, but has disappeared from most sites. Still the best habitats are observed in Romanian Danubian delta and perhaps in Hungary.
Rhyparioides metelkana' main distribution is located in parts of temperate Asia to N-China and Japan.
