Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous on herbs and especially dwarf shrubs and young groves such as birch, willow, broom or heather.
Habitat:
Orgyia recens inhabits heather moors, extensively managed pastures that are rich in dwarf shrubs, very open woodlands, bushy slopes and similar sites.
Life cycle:
The larvae hibernate and are mature in May or June. The adults occur mainly between late May and late July with peak in mid or late June. The eggs are deposited in large batches that are interspersed with female wools.
Remarks:
Orgyia recens occurs from Europe (misses in the very south and north) across temperate Asia to Japan. In Europe, it is often rare and local. The best regions are eastern central and eastern Europe.
