Host plants:
The caterpillar lives on algae, mosses and lichens. Presumably also dead plants serve as food.
Habitat:
Miltochrista miniata inhabits forests in both the wet (riparian forests) and rather dry area up to altitudes of about 1100m above sea level.
Life cycle:
The moths usually fly in a single generation from mid-May to August. In warm years and in warm climates individuals of a very partial second generation appear in August and September. The caterpillars live hibernating on rocks in the forest and especially on trees and branches, presumably also on the ground (litter layer).
Endangerment: regionally endangered or decreasing
Remarks:
Miltochrista miniata occurs from Northern Spain across Central and Southern Europe and temperate Asia to the Pacific.
