Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous, but prefer grasses. I recorded them on Brachypodium in open pine woodland on limestone (NE of Nerja/Malaga) and on various Poaceae in a sandy pine woodland near barrio Nuevo (Cadiz).
Habitat:
Coscinia chrysocephala inhabits various dry and warm kinds of habitat. It is especially common in open woodland with grassy understory.
Life cycle:
I recorded the larvae in March. The moths fly from April and may appear in several generations. But it is also possible that the young larvae aestivate (drought!).
Remarks:
Coscinia chrysocephala shows an Atlanto-Mediterranean distribution with occurrences in S-Portugal and S-Spain, Sicily, S-Italy and NW-Africa. It has formerly been regarded as subspecies of C. cribraria.
