Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous on herbs near the ground, preferredly on Galium.
Habitat:
Chelis arragonensis inhabits nutrient-poor and extensively grazed grasslands and slopes in medium-high altitudes, often near pine woodland.
Life cycle:
The larva hibernates. The adults fly between May and July, especially in June. I recorded the larva still half-grown in a very nutrient-poor pasture at the edge of pine woodland (Frias de Albarracin) on the soil feeding on sprouting Galium in early April.
Remarks:
Chelis arragonensis occurs in mountainous regions of the Iberian Peninsula, especially in the eastern half, but missing in the Pyrenees.
