Host plants:
The larvae are polyphagous, but prefer dwarf shrubs and young groves. I recorded them mostly on Genista sp., but also on young Fraxinus shoots and Mentha sp. in the Sierra de Gredos.
Habitat:
Artimelia latreillii inhabits most often dry and warm scrub (e.g. pastures with much broom), but preferredly in somewhat slightly humid climate (so on mountains of the Sierra de Gredos between app. 800 and 1800m).
Life cycle:
The moths occur in spring between March and May. The larvae live between late April and early July. I recorded them in predominantly mature stage around 1200-1700 m, in the Gredos in late June 2025. Many of the larvae appeared on the Genista bushes only at evening in dusk. The pupa hibernates in a cocoon in the litter or in grass tussocks.
Remarks:
Artimelia latreillii is endemic to the Iberian Peninsula where it is quite local and rarely common.
