Host plants:
The caterpillars live mostly on Biscutella sp., especially on Biscutella laevigata.
Habitat:
Anthocharis euphenoides inhabits forest near grasslands (mostly interspersed with shrubs), open forests, scrubland and similar habitats.
Life cycle:
Anthocharis euphenoides flies from April to mid-June. The caterpillars are found from late April to late June. The caterpillars are resting in the flower/fruit stands of the host plant and can be confused with that of Euchloe crameri (but see illustrations). The pupa overwinters.
Remarks:
Anthocharis euphenoides has often been regarded only as a subspecies of the North African Anthocaris belia. Anthocharis euphenoides occurs in the Iberian Peninsula, from Southern France to the north to about the Italian Susa Valley (Cottian Alps, but here on my own observations only singly). In addition, the butterfly is locally present in Central Italy. Anthocharis euphenoides is quite common in the Provence.
